Hi everyone! How is your weekend going? On my last post (Q&A Answering your questions) I was asked if I have a bedtime routine (by Pink for days) and now I’ve gone over what I actually do to get a good night’s sleep π I think this will be an extended answer π I’ve sat back and thought just how rewarding sticking to the layout of the routine I have already would be, which can only be described as a “routine of sorts” π it doesn’t sound as promising as a normal routine would π so I would like to stick to it completely and have “routine of sorts” graduate to full on “routine” π
Freshly made bed πͺπ
Im not sure if a freshly made bed is done in the morning or before you sleep π€π but I make it anyway and it’s nice to think of it whenever I’m tired throughout the day. This “freshly made bed” is ruined once I’m in it asleep though as I always wake up with half of it on the floor π£ its like a poltergeist is playing some cruel trick on me π.
Pajamas at the ready π
In the Q&A post, i mentioned how I always put on my pajamas late. This is a bad idea because then it’s made into a rush of looking for them and putting them on when I do go to bed. From now on I will lay my pajamas out on my bed and I will force myself to get changed at 9 every evening. Maybe not “force” so much, but sometimes I have to be told π. I go to bed at 10.30 so I reckon putting on my pajamas at 9 would relax my mind/body π and let me know it’s that time of day again π I recently bought 2 new pairs of pajamas from Penney’s (primark) so it shouldn’t be much of a stroppy struggle with myself to get ready π The pajamas are Adventure Time and Bubbles with Whales π (I will do a haul post with them included!).
Something to drink πΆ
I always bring water up with me when I go to bed. Incase I get thirsty, go to bed feeling unwell or wake up in the middle of the night in pain. I used to bring milk to bed in my “bot bot” πΌπ good times! Do you drink hot drinks before you sleep? I went through a phase of having some hot water before I slept and might start that up again.
A good book π
I read before I sleep every night and have done so for as long as I can remember except on nights when I’m overly tired or sick. It’s tempting to read the books I read in the daytime at night but this is a bad idea because they are scary ones π I have always had a Beano magazine at hand for just a relaxing read too as I’ve grown up collecting them ππ. I was talking to my aunt recently and she was saying how when she reads before she sleeps she always dozes off, book in hand π and I was saying how I wish I could do that (I used to come close to sleeping while reading but I’ve never dropped off completely) I read until the words become indecipherable and I have repeated them over and over and they still don’t resonate π and with a sigh I go to sleep, WIDE AWAKE! π usually when I read a Beano I am tired afterwards though.
Phones away! π±
You know as well as I do that you’re supposed to stay away from your phone before you sleep (for at least an hour in preparation). I fall victim of one last sneak peak π but I have found that putting my phone away in a drawer stops me completely from going on it until morning. I’m not even tempted to pick it up. You’re probably thinking “Lucky you! But it’s not as easy as that!” But honestly, try it yourself. It’s easier to go on your phone when it’s sitting right next to you, compared to taking it out of the drawer. You will be so proud of yourself come morning time π
Music! πΌπ΅πΆ
Okay so I know the screens of MP3 players or whatever you have is basically the screen of a phone when it comes to sleeping (put it under the covers to shield your eyes π) but when I can’t sleep, I listen to music. When that doesn’t work because the voice in my head is singing along and is wider than wide awake π what makes me most tired is listening to the radio. I find a channel where they speak in Irish and I go drowsy as I interpret what they are saying and how they are saying it. It’s too relaxing! It must be the equivalent of night time yoga or something ππ€
Thank you for reading! ππ What helps send you into a deep slumber? π
