How to style up your space without breaking the bank! πŸ’₯…πŸ’°πŸ˜΅

Hiya! How are you doing today? ❀️ Judging by the title of this post it appears I’ll be steering you away from the direction of becoming a thief and breaking into a bank πŸ€”πŸ˜‚. Are you ready for a bit of persuasive thinking? I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot of my posts involve it which could be taken as unnerving or overtly caring (let’s go with the latter of the two so that you can read on and hopefully get something in return from this post! 😌 Today would be nice so I’ll try my very best to limit the usual intro rambling πŸ˜‚).

Throughout the various levels of lockdown I’ve both given and put quite a lot of thought into the safe haven that is my bedroom. It’s undergone a noticable transformation by just becoming more me after years of being stuck in the past. In turn I’ve uncovered what can style up a space without breaking the bank! πŸ’° (I’ll admit that last bit came to mind before the rest of this post but I like to think it fits in πŸ˜…). Here is how you can make it happen too (not the fitting in part, that’s a whole other kettle of fish 🐠) and find ways to make something that can at times seem impossible go your way! Let’s start with:

β€’ The simplest of things can be the most effective!

I have a blue glass bottle that was from when I went away with my sister for my birthday and it’s been sat on my bookcase ever since (memories make me into a hoarder πŸ˜‚). I’ve tried to stuff it with fairylights but then the battery box just sticks out oddly. I didn’t want to put anything in there that cannot be removed so I got my thinking cap on and then asked myself a monumental question: why do I have to fill it with ANYTHING? 😲

The bottle itself holds a special memory, why am I trying to take away from that?…so yeah, it remains physically “empty” but holds a level of calmness and tranquility to it due to what it brings to mind ✨. Don’t overdo something you think needs to be more and waste time/cash in the process. Other people don’t need to look and think “oh that’s beautiful!” Just so long as YOU think it’s beautiful! πŸ€£πŸ™Œ

β€’ Materials such as blankets and cushions are great all year round as you need a sense of comfort in your space!

They add a fullness to any room too. Without the multitude of blankets in my bedroom it would look cold and not be referred to as a cozy space by others (yeah I get that compliment and imma hold onto it until the very end πŸ˜πŸ˜‚). My room wasn’t always this way, I didn’t used to sleep in here so it naturally became a cold, uninhabited space. When I started to make it mine things changed. Maybe it felt loved, I’m not sure but what I do know is that comforting textiles had something to do with it so by all means include them! πŸ™Œ

Pillows, throws, cushions, blankets (I’m using double meanings there but it sounds real nice so let’s just go with it πŸ˜ŒπŸ˜‚), there are an abundance of opportunities that you may already own and just need to spruce up so take advantage of that.

β€’ Plantage (yeah I made up a word πŸ™„πŸ˜‚).

If you want to go for a specific look then consider fake plants but if you want something that makes a room feel more grounded then think about the benefits of getting some real plants in your life! They’re cheap but hugely effective. I can’t remember why I originally got my succulents, it was a combination of wanting to have a physical hobby (I consider this to be one even though it’s far from a sport πŸ˜‚) and to see if I could in fact maintain the level of responsibility it means to keep something so fragile alive (succulents are hardy but that doesn’t mean it can’t all go to pot 😜).

I’ve learnt and gained so much along the way of owning them and with that has come the fact that I feel like I’m more here and present if that makes sense? It’s like having an element of nature close by wakes you up yet relaxes you at the same time and it’s nice to have that indoors 🌱. I’ve started growing veg inside lately so I’ll be sure to write about that soon! πŸ˜‹.

β€’ Do you KNOW what you have? (That sounds like a mild form of being passive aggressive πŸ˜‚).

I thought I had a lot of rubbish but it wasn’t until my room was recently tidied (thank you dear sister πŸ€— sure I’d never have gotten round to it πŸ˜‚) that I realized that I do actually want it all 😌. Well not ALL of it, there’s some sorting to do in time but you get what I mean! I thought I had more trinkets than I do because everything was basically a trinket when it was on show before πŸ€”πŸ˜‚ but now that’s all out of the way the few that I do have were all gifted to me by various peeps over the years and I love that. Each one holds a memory and I know I go on about those vibes in detail but it’s true.

What I’m getting at here is you never know the full story until you’ve had a sort through/clear out, even in your own room. You may think you’ve gone overboard with some stuff but maybe you haven’t and it’s all surface level + not as deep. Because of the limited amount I can continue to display all of the trinkets I care for and also know that I never abandoned any as they were already on show to an extent (with random stuff crowded infront πŸ˜‚). Key point: Know what you have before getting even more (as that MORE might not be as important as what you’ve decided to keep and still treasure!).

β€’ A new feature to my room is where I’ve placed certificates on a shelf πŸ€“.

I like to think of it as my motivational corner and as I look at it now, each stage seems to in a way tell me what I truly wanted to do all along 😡✨. Admittedly I’ve completed courses I no longer want to go down the direct avenue of but in doing so I’ve gained useful information that can be put to good use with what I DO want to do. In thinking this way, I’ve grown πŸ’ͺ.

Each cert is a step in the right direction for me (as is all learning even when it’s not on paper) and I value the knowledge that has been instilled within through hard work. When I look to that part of my room I am uplifted with the thought that I can do anything (within reason!) If I put my mind to it. I believe everyone should have a space like this, it doesn’t have to be filled with certificates, just things that motivate you almost instantaneously! πŸ˜„ Things you didn’t think you could get through but did in the end, stuff you want to carry forward with you and channel the wisdom that you can achieve what you set out to do.

I went on an online hunt to find some fairly priced frames before remembering I have some old band merch that I no longer have hung up! These frames aren’t new, there’s a scratch or two but they are perfect because in finding them, it felt like I was meant to display what brings me a nugget of joy and that’s good πŸ™Œ.

β€’ And getting new stuff?

You don’t always have to outsource but if you would like to then make sure it’s something that can truly be incorporated + perhaps reused at a later date and isn’t just to fulfill a so call trend. Guilt shouldn’t be associated if it’s something you really like! 😏 Why not treat yourself if and when you can? 🀷

First check that you don’t already have this thing, then continue to wait out the decision making process for a bit by not making any fast decisions that will later be regretted (I know it’s like torture but you gotta put it into perspective πŸ˜‚). Then go for that final stage! It’s nice to invite something into an interior that hasn’t been there before and sometimes a new object can make everything else seem new as well πŸ’«.

There are loads more ideas and thoughts that could make this post go on forever but perhaps that means there’ll be a part 2 one day? We will just have to wait and see. At the end of the day, wherever you are redesigning/adding to is YOURS so do what you want with it. In my opinion style isn’t always something that hits you in the face when you see it whilst scrolling online, it’s often the personal things that have the biggest impact because they are truly unique! 🌠 In your journey to style up your space remember there are always ways to make something go to plan, even if you must take a different road than expected to get there (on good days I’m all for detours πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚).

Hope you enjoyed this post! Be sure to let me know in the comments below if your planning/are currently revamping a room or even a number of them (we are in a pandemic after all! Might as well change the space you live in and maintain that element of control 😭…and now I’m projecting my emotions onto you, great πŸ˜‚). Share your thoughts + ideas and I’ll see you soon in another post fairly different to this one (I like to keep you on your toes, maybe one day you’ll end up in the Royal Academy for Ballet thanks to me. If so, you’re welcome πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‚). Take care and have a lovely day! βœ¨πŸ’ž
