A Cozy Book Haul πŸ“š: 1st time ordering from Book Depository! πŸ›οΈβœ¨

Hi everyone! πŸ’ž Oh no, your eyes aren’t deceiving you 😯 BOOKS are being served up warm today, eat up πŸ˜ŒπŸ“šπŸ˜‚……Imagine toasty books 😍. Perfect on a cold day but not too hot or they’d burn and that’s a horrible thought if I ever had one, being burnt by what I love most πŸ˜§πŸ˜‚πŸ”₯. I know you’re like-minded peeps and appreciate the good stuff in life so of course I wanted to chat about a recent haul I became the antagonist in! 🀣

Seeing as we’re now in the coziest season of them all (even if Winter is colder πŸ€” I’m adamant that this is the coziest time!) it’s only right that a book haul should find its way onto the blog let alone into my life! (Book hauls are good anytime of the year to be fair amiright? 🀷 Well I’m not wrong πŸ˜‚). What with everything that’s been going on lately it had been months since I’d last treated myself to some new books! 😧 But the score has been settled and wrongs have been put right 😌. I had built up quite the TBR list and even though I didn’t get everything on it as indecisiveness really does creep into the areas you really think it’d steer clear of πŸ˜’ I’m incredibly happy with the loot I came out the other side with so hooray to that! πŸŽ‰

This was my first time purchasing from the Book Depositry and admittedly I’d put it off for a while after hearing of an odd occurrence. As time went by it dawned on me that I wouldn’t get these particular books elsewhere in terms of availability/fairer price so I went for it and am really pleased with the outcome! It all arrived so fast and it was pretty nice receiving books in the post. I took my time unwrapping each one and treated them like mini rewards for various tasks I had to do in order to space it out a bit and make the excitement last πŸ˜‚πŸ“š.

I’m planning on taking one book at a time so as not to just get halfway through each of them and bored (fast phases are real and frankly, quite scary πŸ˜‚). This must be the strongest I’ve ever been in terms of not starting them all straight away! But then again, it’s not weak to give into reading cravings πŸ’ͺπŸ˜‚.

Before we jump into this I just wanna add that I tried to design + place each image in the collages featured within this post so that the crinkles of my duvet cover matched up a bit (aside from the whole bookish thing I think THAT is what adds an element of cozy to the post in order to warrant the title πŸ˜‚). Oh, and I don’t understand how all of the photos were captured at the same time of day and yet some caught the light more than others but it sort of works in making them look like a calming ripple effect 🌊 so we’ll just accept it! Let’s go……

The Witcher – The Last Wish: I loved this on Netflix! (I’m a fandoms worse nightmare by entering a bookish world with that opening line πŸ˜ŒπŸ˜‚) At the beginning of the year I stood in a bookshop trying to decide what to buy (those were the days pre-being aware of covid and all it would entail…despite probably having it back in December 😐), I picked this book up but couldn’t get into it. Later on I regretted that I had set it back down and scribbled it onto my TBR as I kept replaying the section I had opened it up on out in my mind, liking the way it had been written and questioning WHY I didn’t want myself to be happy πŸ˜”. Now I can finally stop doing that and take to avoiding deep thoughts once again as it’s on my shelf where it belongs!

Black Girl Unlimited: I think I saw this mentioned in a tag and the plot sounded like nothing else! Alongside portraying such an important message I’m interested to see what it’s like. Both this and another book further down came as hardbacks and I’m only just remembering that they were meant to but I’d forgotten so it was a lovely surprise! I haven’t gotten hardbacks in years and it’s making me want to rethink that lifestyle choice (although I may have made that decision because I tend to drop them on my face when I read at night and paperbacks hurt a lot less in that situation πŸ˜…).

Red Queen: This was the first book to arrive in the post so naturally I’m halfway through it 😜. Lemme tell you a little secret: I wasn’t going to get it at first because the synopsis didn’t interest me so I did something that’s probably looked down upon……I read the first 2/3 pages online πŸ™ˆ and THAT is what made me want it! The way it’s written is so enticing! It has changed my mind and I’ve been drawn into the story ✨. It all worked out well in the end basically!…well it depends whether or not it meets the new set of expectations I’ve placed on it now as I’m at a momentous part and don’t know where it’ll go but it better be good! πŸ˜‚.

Coraline – the graphic novel: I’ve wanted this for years! The first time I laid eyes upon it I didn’t actually see that it said “graphic novel” so I thought it was just the book with a different cover but when I realized my mistake it felt like all my birthdays had come at once πŸŽπŸ˜‚. It’s a lot more creepy than both the book/movie but I love how different it is. It captures the original book a lot more than the film did (even though I’m obsessed with both 😍) and that can just be seen from flicking through so I’m look forward to sitting back one afternoon and getting lost in it! Sounds like a dream πŸ˜ŒπŸ’.

The Cruel Prince: Okay so this is going to sound really bad but I’m not as excited about this compared to how I felt when I bought it πŸ™„. Maybe it’s because I read a snippet online πŸ™ˆ. I know I shouldn’t have but that’s what pulled me in and I don’t know what’s changed since then. Maybe when I start working my way through them all my feelings will change towards it? I sure hope so! πŸ˜…

Queenie: I wanted to incorporate some more true to life reads into my life as I tend to just go for fantasy a lot of the time and this just had to be gotten after the rave reviews I’ve seen! I know it’s not ALL about looks but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it had a gold cover because on the site it had a pink one and I didn’t really like that so I’m well chuffed πŸ˜πŸ˜‚.

Let Me Hear a Rhyme: If I hadn’t ordered from Book Depositry this would have been the most difficult book to find elsewhere so in the end I think it was the main reason I decided to just go the whole hog and buy from BD! (Yes we use initials now πŸ˜πŸ˜‚). It has a very unique plot and I feel like it will allow me to become invested in the characters so I’m ready for that! (You can read more about it alongside a couple other books on this list in YA books by black authors that are on my TBR! πŸ™ŒπŸ“š).

Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief: I’d come across Percy Jackson before and caught the films on TV but I hadn’t thought of reading the books until I heard how good they were from the lovely I Blog a Little Bit of Everything! I’m sure quite a few books on both my TBR and bookcase were down to her πŸ˜‚. This feels like it’s going to be a moment I look back on gladly, you know when a book just has that vibe? I’m really excited for it!

Order of Darkness Volumes I-III: At some point last year I asked on Instagram for book recommendations and Gracie told me about this! You know what I’m gonna say next, I read the start of it online πŸ™ˆ and it was brilliant so here it is in my life! πŸ˜‚ Honestly though I need to stop reading books before I get them as then I’m taking away that element of surprise but it’s kinda like checking out a book in a store right? I’ve just replaced it with that, yeah it’s okay 😌sure half of them wouldn’t even be here right now if I hadn’t so I no, they should be grateful that option is available πŸ˜‚πŸ€—πŸ“š.

Cinderella is Dead: I don’t think I’ve been more excited in the lead up to receiving a book than I was about this! From what I’ve heard it’s pretty good and I like the idea of the twist on a fairytale. The last time I read a cinderella spin-off it involved zombies and I couldn’t get into it but maybe I was too young as I used to be scared of everything, nowadays books don’t really do that to me but films always will and after going to a haunted experience this time last year I definitely feel like I’ve grown in that department! (Looking back at that post makes me so sad as it felt like a different life before this whole pandemic set in and it’s weird to think we had no idea back then of what was to come).

The Hazel Wood: This has been on my mind for some time! πŸ’₯ The blogger who told me about it has since stopped writing but as a sort of “I’ll read this if you read that” situation this was chosen for me! I think I picked The Fandom for him as I was trying to think of something that would be similar without having read this yet which was a tricky feat πŸ˜΅πŸ˜‚. It sounds like it contains our world and another (similar to The Fandom) and I loved that so keeping in mind that other than that they will be completely different I’m still going into this anticipating great things! 🌲…I saw wood and I thought tree, off to a great start right! πŸ˜‚

As a side note a lot of the books I’ve read recently have been predictable and I really want to move away from that (or maybe it’s something within that I cannot escape from 😨). I’ll ruin it for myself I’d I don’t stop acting like a detective on commission hunting down clues when reading this stuff πŸ”ŽπŸ˜‚.

Books by The Yorkshire Shepherdess: I’m a MASSIVE fan of Amanda Owen and wrote a bit about our Yorkshire Farm in my August Favourite’s! I can just tell these books are going to be amazing if the tv series is anything to go by 🀣✨.

A Curse so Dark and Lonely: Another fairytale twist to delve into! πŸ‘Ή (I’m guessing there’s an actual beast?). I’ve never been crazy about Beauty and the Beast to be honest, maybe because I haven’t seen it as much. If I had been more exposed to it perhaps It’d be more my thing! πŸ€” Yeah that makes sense to me πŸ˜‚. Am I wrong in thinking there aren’t that many spinoffs about Beauty and the beast? (I really thought A Court of Thorns and Roses was for a while πŸ™ŒπŸ˜‚). It’s intriguing as I can already sense the different note to it (reading the back helped 😏) and I can’t wait to see how it turns out + if I’ll enjoy it or not!

A Song Below Water: There was a time when loads of bloggers were reviewing this and luckily since then I’ve forgotten the spoilers as I couldn’t bring myself to avoid them! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ Through every one of those reviews I was driven more in the direction of needing it in my life! This is the other book I mentioned above that came as a hardback and it’s so damn pretty (I fall right into the category of those who judge a book by its cover and I’m trying not to be ashamed about it πŸ˜πŸ˜‚).

Crazy Rich Asians: This is the only other book aside from Red Queen that I’ve started (….well aside from having a sneak peek at the Coraline graphic novel) as I knew it was going to start with the fantastic scene from the movie and I couldn’t hold myself back!! A long time ago I was searching through the shelves in a shop and what I thought was this was there (bit of a tongue twister πŸ˜‚) but it was actually book 2! 🀦 and because I couldn’t get into it I put it back.

Last year I watched the movie and absolutely loved it so again I considered getting the book only to realize my mistake! So going off to see the film first worked in my favour as I don’t think I would have gotten the book otherwise πŸ’«.

And once again a post must draw to a close 😑. I’m angry about it and yet I still do it (gives me time to write MORE *Laughs hysterically amazed by all the possibilities πŸ˜²πŸ˜‚*). Thank you for reading!….now I’m off to do a spot of reading too, I have my work cut out for me with this lot but I’ll survive πŸ˜ŒπŸ˜‚. What are your thoughts on these beautiful books? πŸ“š Have you read any of them? Do you want to? Have I put you off? Oh well, all the more for me! 😝 Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see you again soon. have a brilliant day, do everything I wouldn’t do so that I can live vicariously through you but not get the blame πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‚. Take care πŸ’•πŸŒŸ
