The succulents that moved in last month! πŸ€£πŸŒ΅

Hi everyone! πŸ‘‹ Hope you’re well and ready for quick shot of relaxation that only nature can provide 🌱. We must be at a crucial point in our relationship….today you’re meeting my family! (Well my plant family anyway πŸ€·πŸ˜‚). Honestly though, I have become so connected to these plants they might as well be walking, talking features in my life but I’ll settle for the complete opposite because walking, talking plants would be CREEPY 😧.

After much deliberation (which was actually shorter than the usual amount when I purchase things so props to me! 😜) I decided it was time to get succulents last month. I’ve had one or two before but they were gifts and I hadn’t gone into that situation know succulents need watering too sometimes πŸ˜‚ you live and you learn! We have some thriving about the house but these babies are mine so naturally I wanna share them with you!

In the beginning I went into this wanting bunny ears (Opuntia microdasys) but then I found this site where there are loads more beautiful ones (but no bunny ears) and although I was torn I couldn’t help but treat myself to a selection before later on attempting to get those bunny ears elsewhere and so our story begins! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ When they arrived in the post I couldn’t have been happier and now they’re arriving on the blog!….well I did show you them in my August Favourite’s in preparation for this post but we’ll just ignore that! Here are my succulents:…..🌡

Lithops (I’ve taken to calling them by their other name: living stones!

I’m fascinated by these and there were so many variations available like ones that were golden or burnt like Autumn πŸ‚. It’s amazing to think they grew in the ground (or that they commonly do where they originate from) and weren’t put together by some talented artist as they do look like an intricately made centrepiece.

They’re as cute as buttons even if they were given slanted at an angle! You gotta overlook these things but yeah, damn you sun! πŸŒžπŸ˜‚. I last watered them on the 29th August and am going to hold off for a long while now as they’re opening up and shedding their old leaves (if that’s what you call them, I feel like I’ll forever be a learner!). Smooth to the touch it’s difficult not to stroke them from time to time and I like to think it gives them a bit of luck in the staying alive department like rubbing a penny before it’s thrown into a fountain πŸ€žπŸ˜‚.

Pleiospilos nelii

These remind me of those evil things on super mario (were they venus fly traps? πŸ€” My mum has one of them! Ordered it with my cactus which is further down on the list πŸ‘‡πŸ˜‚). I can’t wait until my pleiospilos nelii blossoms into bright orange flowers!! (But I have to as apparently it occurs in Spring πŸ˜’πŸ˜‚). I read that they will open up on a sunny afternoon and then close so hopefully when the time comes I don’t miss it!…..please spare my feelings if it doesn’t happen everytime, I really wanna see it πŸ˜“.

Gollum jade

This is looking a bit tired and I’m getting mixed messages on what to do in order to save it. At first I heard that if succulents look like they’re going to die they could be overwatered but more recently I was told that if they look shriveled they may need watering so I took a risk and gave my Gollum jade a drink πŸ˜…, we’ll see whether or not that was a mistake! It’s so pretty and I didn’t even taken into account how it is associated with the Hobbit until afterwards (some fan I am 🀦) but that’s a good thing because it shows I didn’t just go for it because of the name! Obviously looks were the leading factor πŸ˜‚.

I just call this one cactus as I don’t really know what it is. I shared it to a succulent facebook group I’m a part of and somebody told me it could be a Echinopsis chamaecereus otherwise known as a peanut cactus but I don’t think it looks like those. Like I mentioned above I originally wanted bunny ears out of an assortment on a garden centre site but I was sent this instead 😢. Maybe I could flatten it? πŸ€” I’m joking, there’s no plant cruelty going on here…..not intentionally anyway.

It’s a quirky thing and is fluffy to the touch. I like it and am not just saying that because I don’t wanna give it that “I’m unwelcome” mentality πŸ˜‚ and even though it is lopsided and won’t stand up by itself I can’t complain…it’d probably hear me (…I get wary like that with them, plants have ears I tell you! 😲).

And that’s that! The temptation is real to get more πŸ™Œ but less is best as then I can pay full attention to the few that I own. They bring a breath of fresh air to my room and a calming aura that is second to none 🌱. Needless to say, I’m in love 😍. It’s almost like having extra pets…..well it’s a load of steps higher than a pet rock anyway so it must count πŸ€·πŸ˜‚. In an effort to give them the best chance possible I have written down varying care instructions for each of them plus I recently dedicated a little notebook to keeping track of when I water them as I know I’ll forget otherwise πŸ˜ŒπŸ’¦. Let’s hope they survive! πŸ™

Thank you for reading πŸ˜‰. In a couple months time would you like to see updates? (Or even before if anything major happens). Do you have any succulents or tips about how I could care for mine that bit more? Especially the Gollum Jade as I’m worried about that one. Be sure to let me know in the comments below! I could talk about them all day, they’re so interesting and dangerously hypnotic 😡 maybe it’s only right I don’t get any more or else I be staring at them all day πŸ˜… (those be the famous last words before I secretly invite more into my life πŸ˜πŸ˜‚). Hope you’re doing well and found this to be relaxing in some way 🌱, take care βœ¨πŸ’•
