Round up, round up!….and ignore the fact that you’re being treated like sheep ๐๐. How are you on this fine specimen of a day? That time has come around where I do this thing, ummm what’s it called? Oh yeah, blog! ๐คฆ Every third day I’ll throw a post in your general direction before retreating back into my makeshift study (bedroom Lucy, it’s called a bedroom even if it does have two desks ๐๐) and leave you wondering where you stand in this relationship, what a joyous ceremony! ๐คฃ
Today I’m sharing a bit about where I blog best and also some surefire ways to figure out where YOUR blogging space is that allows those creative juices to flow! What riveting stuff ๐ซ. It’s no secret that I’m a night owl as I tend to prattle on about it ๐๐ inspiration hits most nights, often as soon as I get in bed if I’m willing to receive it and don’t just doze off ๐ด. The only downside to this is that it will feel like I’ve only written for a short amount of time but I’ll look at my watch and find that HOURS have gone by ๐ฌ.
It’s definitely something I need to work on as I don’t want to sacrifice sleep especially seeing as they say not to work where you rest as that space should be associated with downtime even if I don’t see it as work exactly, I enjoy blogging but yeah that could be another reason why sleep doesn’t come easy for me ๐๐. Right now there doesn’t seem to be a way to avoid getting lost in the activity because I’m such a slow writer. There’s sooo much I want to say before I sleep (My mind moves into new things but physically I just can’t keep up ๐๐) and all sense of time is out of the window ๐ ๐.
I often try to channel that night owl creativity into a more realistic timeframe throughout the day wherever I may be. This can sometimes work well if I put my mind to it in the morning or perhaps the afternoon but most of the time I’m better in coming up with the ideas in the daytime and then setting to on writing them at night. Anyway, enough about my habits! Let’s get to the part that could be of help to you! Wanna figure out where you blog best? Well…..
Test areas out!
Firstly, if not one place stands out and you tend to get inspiration anywhere then maybe you shouldn’t limit yourself to finding that singular space. Just accept/welcome it anywhere or if you really want you can CREATE somewhere to write! Fill it with your favourite things as then you’re more likely to open up and let inspiration flow in.
My room is a very relaxing and cosy place to be, it used to feel quite airy and unlived in but now it’s full of books, rustic furniture (you can tell it’s within the countryside ๐) and a calming aura that makes me breathe a sigh of relief whenever I retreat to it. I’ll bet there’s a place like that for everyone that just feels significant and almost like a gateway to getting stuff done ๐ซ.
Question if it depends on what type of blogger you are niche-wise!
I like to think that my niche is infinity and I don’t know if I would have carried on with this whole thing had I been metaphorically tied down to one theme. Whereas a lot of people find it works better for them knowing what they’re going to put out there โจ. Being aware of what category you fall under (even if you’re like me and don’t!) might impact where/when you can do your thing with a bit more go! ๐จ (That better not be a fart emoji, I’m using it in more of a speedy way ๐).
Think about whether or not you’re a night owl/whatever the opposite of that is ๐ (early bird? Is there one for daytime? ๐ฆ๐ค)
Your surroundings can work around you and not the other way round!…which is kind of another point further along but said in a different way ๐ . I’m beginning to realize that not only am I a night owl but if I’m up early enough in the morning then a similar vibe kicks in and I feel somewhat empowered to get things done! I can make sense of that early morning drive in that things can feel that bit more possible as the sun is coming out and the birds are chirping their little heads off, there’s a whole day ahead and even though it may not go to plan, in that moment it bloody well feels possible! ๐
Eliminate sources of distraction!
Unless you’re typing out the post in question on the following items, put away your phone/laptop and focus on the task at hand! ๐ If you need them then why not switch off your WiFi and write on the notepad option instead as a lot of these work offline and even without signal (then copy/paste to blog drafts when done) as otherwise it’s easier to click on other apps such as social media and lose track of what you initially set out to do ๐ฌ. I write in my journal first so there isn’t that screen distraction until the very last minute when I’m typing out.
The right place will be devoid of stuff that can possibly pull you away or maybe you like that pull and are off finding ideas on Pinterest or something in which case go for it, take what you need and be on your way ๐ถ back to the drawing board with your newfound inspo ๐.
Similar to the point above, figure out whether silence or background noise works well for you! ๐ฃ
Noise is probably a number one distraction and it’s at it’s most annoying when the source of it is out of your control! ๐ก Noise cancelling headphones can come in handy but I find that the sound has just thrown me off course and I’ll have to go off and do other things to build me back up to the stage of wanting to write. The same thing can go for silence with some people, it can be something they want to fill with music and if you can find the right tune that keeps you on track then by all means, play it! ๐บ Deciding whether or not noise or silence is your vice could be the making of you ๐.
Is it where your blogging essentials are readily available or can you take them with you?
A lot of my blogging essentials (you can read all about what I can’t go without when blogging HERE) can be taken with me downstairs to write throughout the day and if I’m out and inspiration hits then I’ll have the notepad on my phone to quickly jot down ideas! โจ Question time: Does your blog have to take place on a computer or can you carry it with you via a laptop/phone?
Have you a small blogging journal that can fit in a bag? Or maybe like me it’s easier for you to have an app that can be transferred to a notebook later on? In that sense, your blogging space is all around you and I do feel that too! It can happen anywhere but for me there’s that one place where it noticably skyrockets ๐ and luckily it’s where I keep my essentials.
Recognize mental barriers
They may be disconnecting you from what you’re capable of in the present moment such as things on your to-do list, negative thoughts and those sources of distraction I mentioned above. Or maybe here’s a physical barrier which I often find when I’m unwell and can’t get up to my room or maybe just don’t feel well enough to write amidst an all consuming flareup of pain.
Sometimes we can put a stop to these blocks by talking them out if they’re worries or using them in a positive fashion to maybe help others when writing about them or a lot of the time it can be good to take a step back and go with the flow as nothing turns out well if it’s forced and that’s not the general message I’m going for with any of these points ๐. Do what’s right for you and the following tips may help when you want to write but need that lil nudge in the right direction!
Don’t stress…
If you go through spates of having no motivation/productivity maybe it’s time to move to a different area and try that out or perhaps the break as there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that! (You can read about the benefits of blogging breaks HERE). What you feel in that moment of discontent will not last forever and your surroundings won’t always dictate your ability ๐ that must come from within. Which leads onto….
Knowing that sometimes it’s not a place, it’s a mindset and writing can take place absolutely anywhere!
I only find it easier to write in my bedroom because that’s my space full of things I love (oh materialistic one ๐๐). It’s got nothing to do with some unknown entity deciding to spring ideas at me in a certain place, it’s all about where I’m most at one with my thoughts and feel comfortable to write them down. The words are within you, not your surroundings even though they can have a huge impact and inspiration can often come from exterior stimuli ๐ต there are loads of ways to look at it!
Thanks for reading! Can you think of any more ways someone can figure out where it is that they blog best? I couldn’t think of more if I tried so a fresh mind is needed! ๐ญ๐ Let me know in the comments below and I hope you’re having a brilliant day! โจโค๏ธ

Since I’ve been on a break from blogging I’m worried that when I come back where I gain inspiration from will change and I’m hoping it doesn’t because those moments feel the best! โจ YES! You’ve really got to note down or it’s like your mind senses it’s important and plays a trick making you forget it ๐๐. Ooh I hear you on the self conscious bit, I lose track of time when blogging so I always feel like I’ve been on my phone too long and that people will get annoyed with me so maybe half of me chooses to leave it till I’m alone in the evening. Hahaha ๐๐จ๐

I love your posts and the way you write really inspires me! I just started a blog of my own (yesterday), but I donโt really know how to get people to notice it. Do you have any advice? โค

Aww thanks so much!! ๐คฃ I think the best thing to do is get involved in the community like you are doing right now! Don’t comment on people’s posts asking them to read your blog tho as thats very direct and may come across as rude, maybe go around and find those with interests similar to yours and chat about stuff they are writing in order to form friendships. Don’t fret if things don’t happen quickly as it really does take time but it will work out in the end โจ. Until then, enjoy yourself and the rest will follow. I have some blogging tips here that you may find useful: https://elsielmc.wordpress.com/2017/05/24/blogging-tips-that-really-work-%f0%9f%99%8c/ and also ways to be within a community here: https://elsielmc.wordpress.com/2018/11/03/how-to-be-a-part-of-the-blogging-community/ .
