Hi everyone! How have you been lately? π Are you excited that Autumn is almost here?? π Or maybe it’s going to be an entirely different season where you are π΅ the world works in mysterious ways…..or maybe not so mysterious, more scientific π but I don’t think too deeply about that, I’m just pleased I’ll be wearing cozy jumpers again soon π€ What are you looking forward to the most? π
Today I’m going to try my best to put on a serious face for an important post…..nah I give up! But I held it for like, a split second so give credit where credit is due! π€·π Lets talk about some of the things us bloggers can do before that fabulous post is published out into the world! π Each point varies in importance and probably won’t always be remembered so don’t beat yourself up if you forget every once in a while, tis not the end of the world but it’s stuff that could be of interest to you so with that in mind let’s get down to the task at hand π:
Check for spelling mistakes!
Sometimes I’ll correct stuff, save it to drafts and it’s converted back to its previous format so it’s always a good idea to go back over what you’re led to think is okay π It’ll drive me mad one day π π. Occasionally mistakes can slip through and that’s perfectly okay too, we’re not robots!
Is it an old post? π΅
Not only does it need updates (like if you’re writing about something in the present tense but it’s from a long time ago maybe acknowledge that so as not to cause confusion) but also there is a glitch with really old posts where I have to re-create them or else when they are uploaded the comments section won’t work properly π.
A couple times I’ve forgotten and there’s a been a mad rush to log in to fix it (as it has to be switched back on via the website version of WordPress whereas I use the app all of the time). For a long while this was annoying until I realized it didn’t happen with new posts after a certain date so I just copied/pasted the text from the old ones and all was good again π. What I’m trying to say here is: be aware of any possible glitches that could limit a post like that and it’ll save a lot of hassle in the future!
Do you want it to have an image?
Your posts don’t have to have an image if you don’t want them to but if you’re all for it then be sure not to forget! πΌοΈ
Set it to the correct time you wish for it to go up π
A lot of posts try to backdate to when you either first started writing them or last saved the draft so it’s essential that they are set to the proper time! If you don’t then no one will be in with the best chance of even knowing about it’s existence unless they visit your site. A good thing to do is follow you own blog so that you can check if your post goes up into the WordPress reader when you publish it as sometimes even if the time is right it won’t work π².
If that happens then all is not lost! Schedule it for a couple minutes later and wait until you are alerted it’s up, go check and then you know it’s okay! I leave the app whilst this is all going on as it doesn’t seem to want to go up whilst I’m on there π. Oh and that part about the post not going up properly can also happen sometimes when you schedule for a later date and you’ll be expected to go onto the app so as to alert it so it does it’s thing! π
Add those tags! π±οΈ
They can be a great help in getting your writing out to the people who are in need of that information! π€ Don’t add random hashtags though as they’re just a waste and take up space that could be used for relevant options (too many and I feel like it doesn’t do well so keep em’ low and go with what you think people would actually type in if they were to go looking for what you have to offer! ππ).
Are all the relevant posts linked correctly (if any have been added at all)? π
Check they work and make sure you’ve added them in wherever necessary! (The amount of times I’ve said “read it HERE” and forgotten to link to anything is unreal π). Don’t go crazy with post recommendations, just stick with the bare minimum and that way you’re bound to have to go with the most important ones that’ll be appreciated! π«
Do you think it should be sectioned off into paragraphs?
It makes things a whole lot easier to follow if there are gaps in the text! This can also be yet another glitch π you know when your post is still a draft and you’re given the option to view what it would look like once it is published? Well after I check that the writing itself all seems to bunch together ignoring where I spaced it out π£. The only way I can avoid this is by not checking at all so that’s pretty much my life right now π
Perhaps you shouldn’t give the game away any sooner than you have to….add a caption like I did with this post! π
Before you clicked on this post I added a lil snippet of writing you could read, usually the intro at the beginning of the post would show there but sometimes I like to spice things up so that you have to click to see the goods! It’s known as the excerpt and can also be a great place to leave a message to further explain what a post is going to be about if the title itself is a bit allusive β¨.
Advertise π£
This can be a brilliant thing to do before you publish a post in order to build up anticipation! π€£ I don’t do it a lot cause I’m lazy π but when I do it’s mostly with blog posts featuring my bullet journal as I like to share stuff about that over on my Instagram account (ps. I took pictures for my upcoming bujo post the other day so head over there to see a sneak peak! πποΈ).
Check it’s complete π
Probably the most important and also a good way to draw this post to a close! I’ve gone to read a couple things before and the entire body of the post has been missing (but that may have been a glitch where WordPress accidentally made them leave the bloggers draft folder! π). Make sure you are uploading the right thing, that you’ve said all you wanted to say and that the post is what you set out for it to be! ποΈ
…and now I must leave you again π (I be the only one crying in this scenario but that’s okay, I understand I’m the dependant one in this relationship π). Thank you for reading! π Take your thoughts all the way to the bank comments section π° and let us know about even more things that can be done before a blog post is published! I’m in a learning mood so catch it whilst you can π. I hope you have a lovely day, whatever you do and we’ll cross paths again soon β¨ Take care π
