HELLO! *recoils* that welcoming was far too loud for my liking but for good reason, it came out that way because I’m so incredibly excited that this post is finally here! 🤣 It’s been a while since I last worked on my bullet journal, April to be precise (you can check it out here!). Back then I think I created it as more of a fun thing, this time round with my second ever spread I’m determined to keep an element of that but also have it be more helpful + useful in my life so that I’ll be more inclined to gravitate towards it 😌. Due to this, my choice of pages have gone through quite the transformation so it will be interesting to see how they go down!
Before I showed you the end result, now I’m getting in there early and doing the complete opposite so that I can better share with you not only my plans/expectations today but also later on, the experience and perhaps an outcome just as fantastic as the journey itself! 🤞 The theme I came up with for August is: 🍃Up above & down below🌊….in other words, nature! 😂 Let me tell you all about it, starting with the very first page:
I like to call this my opening line page as it sets the scene for what is to come. I have always liked this quote and never did I ever think I would be including it in a bujo 😵 (Mostly because for a very long time I didn’t think I’d start one and then when I did I ended up going on that hiatus, but we won’t talk about that 🙄😂). I knew I wanted to incorporate something whimsical and I’m very pleased with how it turned out!
Initially I was just going to go right in with my Staedler fine liners but then it dawned on me that if I made a mistake I wouldn’t be able to tear out the page because on the opposite side is my blogging schedule from April 😂. So I wrote it in pencil first in the font I wanted before going over that in a navy fine liner! I love how bold that layering makes it look so I have decided not to erase any signs of the pencil. What’s your favourite quote? ✨
For my page stating the month I drew my interpretation of a trees foundation without making it look too bulky, focusing on the branches and allowing the words to flow from that! This was actually the page I started with and I think the idea for my theme stemmed from it (a lil bit of pun is harmless 😏😂). Originally I wanted to stick with trees for the rest of the layout but I favoured other designs and kept my mind open to new possibilities by not limiting myself to that one theme.
Moving on swiftly we are faced with a compost heap! 😲 i.e. my take on a brain dump where random thoughts, ideas and maybe even doodles roam freely (…as free as they can be whilst beneath a heap of mud anyway. Sounds like a better place to write suppressed thoughts 😂 ). Earthy tones are the subject line of these two pages and I don’t know if you can see them but there are loads of orange dots interspersed throughout them like hidden fragments within the soil. These dots kind of section off whatever will be scribbled here so that it won’t become overly packed and indecipherable or at least that’s the plan and I’m abandoning it if things get messy 🙌😂
This has gotta be the page I’m most thrilled about! The amount of mood trackers I’ve fangirled over and now I have my own! 😄 I wrote “all the moods…beneath the sun” to pay homage to that feeling you get when looking at the sunset and then I realized that I didn’t actually list them all because I only had my Staedler pastel highlighters close by so that allowed me to add four different emotion options and one without colour (I can switch it up if need be on my next spread but for now we’ll see how that goes!).
I absolutely love how the theme “Up above & down below” has given me the opportunity to try out a different approach like this that I want to have an entire theme based around in the future so don’t be surprised if that crops up! Or better still, do be surprised and act all shocked so that I know you read this post first 😜😂. I was going to draw a tree and use the leaves to track each day but I prefer the clouds and I’ll shade them with whatever colour corresponds to that day (maybe in the afternoon as that’s the height of it and I could feel different in the morning/evening 🤔 I’ll probably go with whatever time I actually remember to do it! 🙈😂).
Next is a quotes page which my good friend Christina over at Sea of Words gave me the idea for! 😘 I’m unsure whether or not the blue relates to the sky or ocean (maybe the latter of the two seeing as my mood tracker on the page before is set up in the sky so we’ve got to switch things up a bit!). I wanted to keep it simple so that the quotes I add will speak for themselves! 💫 I might even draw a blue wave over each addition if I go with the ocean choice 🌊 and I’ll be sure to add some of the beautiful quotes about growth & following your dreams!
The return of my blogging schedule is nigh! This is the one thing I kept from April as it worked very well for me…or as well as it could seeing as I always change my mind about what I wanna do 🙃. Plans are ever-changing and ideas pop up when you least expect it so I’ll never 100% stick to a blogging planner but they’re good all the same so that I know what I’m dealing with and can decide from a long list of what to write! I find that it’s far easier to make that decision when your options are written down in front of you 💭.
I took inspiration from the song ‘Sowing the Seeds of Love’ by Tears for Fears and wrote: Sowing the seeds of blog 😂. I sectioned off flowerbeds which at this point in time were waiting for flowers to blossom and ideas to sprout 🌱. I now have half of it filled in using some new glitter gel pens I got the other day (my first trip in months to TK Maxx was a beautiful moment 😭😂) and it looks fabulous if I do say so myself! I can’t show it to you though or else you’ll know what posts are coming your way 👀 I might share a completed version of this theme once the month is over so that you get to see it!
And last but by no means least is my daily gratitude page which I’m convinced I’ll get the most joy out of! I really hope I can remember to write something each day 🙌😅 as I get the feeling that I could gain a lot from doing that through taking something forward with me from each 24h into the future ✨. It’s very bright and reminds me of Autumn which just so happens to be my favourite season so naturally I cannot wait to fill it in! 🍂
Thank you for reading! 😉 I straight up jinxed my last bullet journal entry by acknowledging that things could go wrong at this very point and not dedicating time to making it go the other way so I’m gonna end on a high and express how much I want to make it work and this time round I know I will! As an extra form of motivation I recently made the jump to changing my Instagram into a bookish/bujo space with a sprinkle of where I take inspiration from + a splash of colour relating to each pic featured like this:
I’m keeping my stories how they used to be so you’ll still see random bits and pieces from throughout my day but yeah, new feed! I’m having fun with it so far and it’s nice knowing what I’m going to share there whereas here on my blog I enjoy leaving that open to interpretation and do whatever I feel like with infinity as my niche 💫 (…hopefully it works both ways! 😂). Let me know in the comments below if you have a bullet journal and/or any tips for keeping it up and running! 🙌 Also, I’m intrigued to know what your theme is 🎨. Hope you have a wonderful day and I’ll see you soon! ❤️
