Hi everyone! How are you? I hope you’re well ❤ Today I thought I would share how to make a good book last! 📚 In reality if a book is really good you’re gonna finish it anyway, but if you want to hold onto that feeling of reading something truly amazing then these tips are for you! (Well hopefully anyway or what on Earth are we doing here?? 😐 It’s all I’ve got to give I’m afraid 👍😂).
Before I start I just want to say I don’t follow all of these tips in order to hold onto a pageturner, some of the following suggestions are just for fun so here we go!
Read before you sleep 😴
By doing this you can look forward to reading it later whilst going about your day! For me, I save the best books to read before I sleep as I know nothing will drag me away from them (…except sleep of course 😴😂). My top picks for this time are books that help me to wind down and are easy to follow so I don’t quickly tire myself out and have to sleep straight away.
Read more than one book at a time 📚
Through doing this your favourite book will have to take a back seat and it will be treasured that bit more in comparison to the others when you return to it (if that’s possible when you already know how much you like it to risk taking the leap with these steps! 😂). I have 8 books on the go at the moment through want of different forms of escapism (yep it’s gone up since I shared the books I’m currently reading post but only by a little bit 🙄😂). You may very well find that you prefer to go about reading this way and not find it as difficult to part with your usual favourite choice as you once would have thought!
Finished a chapter? Well start the book again! Obvs
Ive always wanted to say “obvs” so I threw it in there 😂 Okay so this is for those of you that are really committed to making a book last and it may be a downright no no but hear me out. It’s simple really, read a chapter then start again but next time move up a chapter and so on until it’s over (after going about it this way you’ll probably be happy when it’s all over 😂). You might even take in a hidden snippet of information that you missed the first *cough* 20 times around….or it might might make you hate the book you loved which I take no responsibility at all for (because it could go either way really! 😂).
Don’t use a bookmark
I always forget to use a bookmark and spend ages searching for the page I was last on (I don’t dare bend pages! Not even as a last resort, it feels too cruel 😂). This can be an accidental thing or you can choose to not use a bookmark. A couple of weeks ago I went back to reading a book I’d given up on and found a bookmark in it (the unexpected gift felt like it was my birthday all over again! 🎁😂).
Be busy! 💁
When you’re up and about you won’t have the time to read your favourite book (which isn’t nice to think about but surely it deserves it’s place on this list because it works!).
Join a book club/chat! 💡
There you will be encouraged to read at the same pace as everyone else. Yes you might be tempted to read further ahead of them but then when you’re all doing a recap of what you’re up to you will have to go back to join in the discussion so you might as well stay at the same level and in turn make the book go on for longer.
Write a review as you go along ✍
Or even just a short summary after each chapter. On the rare occasions I post book reviews they would firstly not have been possible without the book itself (obvs! 😂) and had I not stopped reading every so often go scribble down notes! When you go into it with the aim of writing about it along the way you really get more from the experience as you’re analysing what you might have just scanned through before had you not been looking to make complete sense of it.
Share it! 💕
Read a certain amount of it before sharing it with someone else where upon they can read the same amount before handing it back to you! I’m not gonna lie, when I’m reading a book I want it all to myself but in the past I’ve done this when I’ve thought other people would really enjoy a book too and it lengthened out the reading process immensely (especially when certain people took extra long to give the book back to me! Are they trying to make me angry!? 🙄 It must be the equivalent to waiting for your teenaged child to return home after a night out partying, you want them back safe and on the fleck of dust seated upon the time you both agreed was their curfew 😂).
Don’t take it everywhere with you
I’ll be honest, I would take my favourite book everywhere with me if only it could fit in my bag! (Looks like I need a bigger bag 😏🛍 The book is never the problem 😂). It is best it’s left behind so that I don’t finish it sooner though!
Set yourself a page and/or time limit!
The page limit idea is easier said than done I know but designating a certain amount of time in your day to kicking back and reading is reasonable enough! I mean it basically brings the self-care factor into your routine and that can’t be ignored!
And if all else fails read a spoiler!
This is a last resort that I won’t even try tempt you into doing because I don’t want you to do it any more than you do! 😌😂 If you read a spoiler you’ll annoy yourself to the point where you won’t want to go on reading it as much as you previously did in turn saving it and making it last. It’s not even an option is it? (If it is we’ve seriously got to rethink our life choices 😂).
Thank you for reading and I hope these tips help! 😉😂 Do you have any tips on how to make a good book last? Let me know and have a lovely day! ❤
