Books I’m currently reading! πŸ“š February 2018

Hi everyone! How are you? ❀ Today I thought I’d share with you the books I’m currently reading! There are four in total. It’s not easy at all to have only one book on the go is it? I think it must be a record for me to only be in the middle of four right now πŸ˜‚ I was reading more but as time went on I forgot their plots and so there are a few that I need to start again! These books listed below were all started some time last month and I’m not planning on putting them down anytime soon! (I make it sound like I can hold and focus on four books at the same time…if only! πŸ˜‚). Here are the books I’m currently reading:

Hidden Talents by Erica James

This book follows the story of members of a book club called Hidden Talents and those who are close to them playing roles in their lives. Each member has joined the club for a reason, there’s Jaz (the youngest member) who finds writing is an escape from her overwhelming family; Beth, a widow who lives with her son whom is soon off to University but can’t seem to move on from her past under the watchful gaze of her in-laws; Victor who is convinced he is writing the next bestselling novel and is as of yet still a complete mystery (but I’m intrigued to find out why he puts himself on a pedestal above everyone else); Jack who’s wife cheated on him with his friend wishes to write himself out of the hole his life has fallen in and last but certainly not least there’s Dulcie who set up the book club! Despite maintaining a calm demeanor Dulcie has her own secrets too, she’s having an affair with a married man.

This book is AMAZING! There is so much going on and yet it doesn’t come across as overbearing at all. Each of the characters have their own story to tell and it’s all done in such a believably realistic manner.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

This book follows Hercule Poirot as he tries to uncover the truth behind a murder on the majestic Orient Express! The people under investigation on the train are all so unique and interesting and I find it so much fun learning more about them and all possible verdicts.

I read this book before I sleep (although since I’ve started reading Hidden Talents I have spaced this one out a bit). I love Agatha Christie’s style of writing and everytime I read her books I’m instantly taken in, it really gets your brain working trying to figure out the culprit! πŸ˜‚ I saw the movie of this first before I started reading it but it’s just one of those books where it doesn’t matter if you think you know where it’s going because it’s a whole new thing in itself.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This book follows Starr who witnesses the murder of her unarmed best friend and tells of a harsh reality. This was the first book I started reading on this list yet I admit I am not very far into it. This is because usually I’ll read a book throughout the day and then before I sleep but as much as I was absorbed in it by the day I found it very hard to read it before I slept as it really kept me up thinking afterwards and on the nights I did get off to sleep my dreams weren’t so nice. It shows how much of a powerful read it is and I’ve never been affected by a book like that. I took to reading another book before I slept and that book soon became my day book too (I’m not in control of my reading habits very well πŸ˜‚). Every now and then I’ll still read it as it is not something I want to forget about.

The House on Willow Street by Cathy Kelly

I am not far into this one yet so there’s not much I can say about it but already I don’t want to give up on it! So far it is about residents of a community who are all connected to the area in some way and are either being drawn into it due to present situations or back to it in order to seek the safety they once felt before. I love reading books that are very real (much like Hidden Talents above) as I find them kind of comforting and easy to imagine happening on my doorstep/my dream doorstep (I want to live in some of these books! πŸ˜‚).

Thank you for reading! πŸ˜‰ What are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it? Let me know and have a lovely day! ❀

  1. If you want another really good read- Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews. Definitely not one for before bed- it’s a little (very) creepy and dark, but it’s written so well, and is definitely worth a read! Xx
