Imagine a staircase…

Imagine walking up what feels and looks like a never-ending flight of stairs. You can’t look back for fear of falling so you keep going forward. These steps are wooden not concrete but they are capable of feeling stable. When you get tired, a shelter comes into focus on a raft to your left and from here it is safe to look back on how far you’ve come. The views are breathtaking and you look on as the sun sets in the distance casting a shadow over the past and allowing its rays to show and beckon you towards the path you are to follow from now on. The shelter is comforting but all good things must come to an end. You continue up the steps.

There are times when you want to turn back but somehow you find the strength to carry on and yet another raft appears beside you to celebrate your growth and let you look back on it. Occasionally the steps float beneath your feet and you want nothing more than to reach another raft but there are none to be found and you can’t hold back the tears beginning to take control. They rain down and make you slip. Sometimes you fall but the landing is surprisingly safe and other times you clutch on to hope alone. You wonder what it is exactly you’re supposed to be travelling towards because surely this is all for a reason? There must be a destination and not a billion rafts? In the end you find solace in the fact that there is no answer to the question that sits over all. In the beginning you didn’t know there would be a raft so it’s only right that you don’t know what it all leads to.

When the steps come to an abrupt halt know that all is not lost and they are still there, you just can’t see them yet, all it takes is a brave step. This staircase will come to an end when you reach the top one day and until then you won’t know what is up there, what you’ve been walking towards since the very beginning. As scary as the unknown is, it leaves room for infinite possibilities as long as you keep moving forward, no matter how long it takes you will get there!
