Part 1: My Holiday in the UK – Week 1 πŸš’🏘🚌🍩

Hi everyone! How are you today? This is the first part of my holiday in the UK post and it has been a long time coming because I was getting the good pictures off my sister’s camera! πŸ˜‚ My holiday was two weeks long so I decided to put it into two parts which won’t be too long as like I told you HERE there were days when I had flare-ups and just rested, I will tell you what days they were but I won’t go into too much detail as all I did was try to sleep away the pain (it made realize just how much being out of your comfort zone changes the situation your put in: resting hardly helped my pain as I was on alert of the fact I wasn’t at home and couldn’t just curl up in my own bed πŸ˜‚). On the days when I was well we made the most of the holiday and made a ton of memories just like I hoped we would! We didn’t do much that first week compared to the second as we were resting up but being in different surroundings memories were still made πŸ˜† I loved looking back over this holiday and am so happy that through this blog I can share it and feel like I’m reliving every moment again! πŸ˜†

Day 1: August 6th – Sunday

I was woken up at 4:50am by my sister who kindly promised she would get me up as I probably would have stayed laying there relishing those last few hours in my own bed if given the chance πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

After saying goodbye to our parents and pets (Toby, Ruby and skirtsy) we left our home at 6am and took our seasickness tablets 😬

We were the first car on the boat at 8am and after we saved our seats on the boat (we were in the plus lounge) we went up and got some food that had been laid out. We got some spicy peanuts that we had been craving since last year when we were last on the boat πŸ˜‚ and these delicious bite sized brownies that were too good! 😍 At one point when they stopped serving them I remember thinking: I wouldn’t mind getting back on this boat when we arrive if only to have some more of those brownies! πŸ˜‚ We retreated back to our seats where I had a surprisingly perfect sleep πŸ˜‚ (I would usually worry that I’m surrounded by nosy strangers but getting up so early started to take it’s toll and I conked out πŸ˜‚). I woke up to go to the shop (where I got some salted peanuts to use up my last euros, they weren’t that nice and to prove that I still have the full bag πŸ˜‚) but couldn’t handle the swaying of the boat so for the rest of the trip you could find me reading back in my chair! πŸ˜‚

On the boat it was strange hearing other people with various British accents as here in Ireland the only people we hear like that are family πŸ˜‚ is it bad that in the beginning I found it to be slightly annoying?πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ But then after a while it felt amazing being able to talk and sound like everyone else. It’s like I enjoy being out of my comfort zone in Ireland but being in England should  have been out of the ordinary instead it made me feel at ease in the aspects Ireland doesn’t and same vice versa (why am I so confusing?! πŸ˜‚).

It felt like our bodies were moving with the boat but our brains we’re tethered in place in Ireland resulting in dizzyness even though it was a smooth crossing πŸ˜‚

At 11.15 the boat arrived in Wales and we were the first off as being the first on we we’re blocking everyone else in πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚ (I was so worried we’d be late down to the car and people would be annoyed but we were on time as my aunt is far more used to this than we are! πŸ˜‚). It was raining as we drove off the boat.

Maybe it’s the green in Wales but it didn’t feel like I was in a different country to begin with, until we stopped off at a KFC drive through and were greeted by the kindest people, then I knew we were far away from home as the customer service in drive throughs where I live is nothing to write home about πŸ˜‚. When we got back on the road I realized that I recognized some of the signs in Welsh from the year before! (I was proud of myself! πŸ˜‚) and in that moment I felt like my holiday was starting, the end πŸ˜‚

We got to my other aunt’s house around 5 o’clock and were greeted with hugs by our two little cousins whom we took to the park across from their house after watching Boss Baby πŸ˜‚. In the evening I was feeling down but I realized it was because of our early start that morning.

Day 2: August 7th – Monday

Woke up at 6am and was surprised to find I wasn’t at home and fell asleep again πŸ˜‚ woke up at 8am and even though my sister and I had been told we could lay in we got up as when you’re awake you’re awake and might as well accept it and get on with the day πŸ˜‚

We went to my Nana’s house and had a lovely time and then walked down to the shops with her. (Wherever we stayed it was so nice to be able to walk down to a shop as at home in Ireland we can’t do that living in the countryside miles from the population πŸ˜‚). As we walked to the shops I found I keep reminding myself “no one knows you here” so that I felt more comfortable and this became a constant whilst on holiday as it’s so nice to be in a place that is diverse and no one stares out of judgement based alone on looks.

We each got a box of some yummy fish and chips!!

Before heading back to our aunt’s house.

Day 3: August 8th – Tuesday

Woke up at 7.30 (it’s like my body knew I was in a different country as at home I’m in the land of dreams at that time πŸ˜‚). Had a relaxing day with my aunt and cousins.

Went to TKMaxx and got some of the stuff from my Huge Holiday Clothing Haul post. Later on in the evening my sister and I walked down to a newsagents near my aunts house which was a lot of fun (probably sounds weird πŸ™ˆ but like I said above we’re not used to being able to walk somewhere instead of drive so an evening stroll through the park to the shop was so surreal and cool for us πŸ˜‚ (we’d done it the year before before so knew where to go without getting lost!) We got ice cream’s and walked back breathing in the crisp air! (I had to say that! It was so calming. I think I live life in mindfulness mode just taking everything in πŸ˜‚).

Later in the even we snuggled up in our room with our aunt (the aunt we came over with…this is getting a bit confusing πŸ™„πŸ˜‚) and watched Celebrity Big Brother πŸ™„πŸ˜‚ did anyone else watch that this year? Did you hear that Sarah winning was supposedly a fix? 😬 Anywho! Next day! πŸ˜‚

Day 4: August 9th – Wednesday

I felt unwell so laid down for the majority of the day (moments in between I tried to get up and about but ended up retreating back to bed πŸ˜‚). Looking back now I realize that it was good I rested on this day even if it didn’t feel like a rest because the next couple of days were draining as it is. So much that in the second week my face swelled because my body wanted to have a migraine but wasn’t relaxed enough to let it happen so tensed up (I’ve written before about how I automatically hold it until I’m home in my own bed but this time I couldn’t do that) it was horrible but I really appreciated my family’s support as I felt like I was letting everyone down and ruining the holiday not being able to keep going even though I was reminded that this wasn’t the case.

Day 5: August 10th – Thursday

Woke up at 8.30 and spent time with my cousins before leaving for Brixton where my sister and I jumped out of the car to go find the David Bowie mural (my sister is a humongous fan πŸ˜‚ last year she went to see Freddie Mercury’s house so this year had to been on the same level! πŸ˜‚) which we found and waited patiently to get close up to whilst a man tried to get a photo of EVERY angle (a few silent curses were sent his way from my sister who had waited so long to be there and from me as all that kept going through my mind was that our aunt was waiting for us! πŸ˜‚). When we got our chance my sister realised she didn’t have a pen to write on the wall with, luckily I was carrying one alongside a notepad in my bag πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ after she wrote on the wall we took some photos before heading off on our merry way to quickly go see the house David Bowie grew up in πŸ™„πŸ˜‚.

We then got some snacks before going to the TKmaxx in Ealing where I got some more stuff from my haul πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚. On the journey back we passed the Chelsea embankment which my sister reminded me is featured in Made in Chelsea πŸ˜‚ I took a rubbish photo but I’m glad I took it as it brings me back to us all laughing in the car as we tried to understand why the GPS kept relocating πŸ˜‚

We saw London Dungeons in the distance where we went last year too! πŸ˜‚ In the evening my sister and I went to the newsagents again…as you can tell this was a regular occurrence as it was nice to go somewhere by ourselves and of course get some sweets πŸ˜‚

Day 6: August 11th – Friday

We got a McDonald’s breakfast….the egg had shell in it 😬 I would have gone and told them but they’d already brought me out a sausage McMuffin when I wanted a bacon and on top of that gave me cheese when we told them not to, so I didn’t want to have them slap me for pointing out another problem πŸ˜‚ honestly I was just grateful to be getting a McDonald’s breakfast as they are heaven! πŸ˜‚ After that we got some flowers as we were going to visit my family on my mum’s side who up until last year we hadn’t seen for 12 years (except from my aunt who came to stay with us around 7 years ago) and it was so lovely to see them all again πŸ˜† (we are hoping that next year my parents can see them too as health reasons have prevented us in the past on both sides and our pets wouldn’t be able to handle us all away at one time πŸ™ that would be a magical reunion so fingers crossed πŸ˜†). Our cousin took us into town and after shopping around we ended up in Happy Days where I chose to have a Terry’s chocolate orange milkshake which was the stuff of dreams!! 😍

Before we left the shopping center we were in our cousin showed us how to get Oyster cards so that we could get the bus back to hers. Now comes the part of the post when I say something out of the ordinary….I loved going on the bus! πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ The last time I remember going on a bus was when I was a toddler with my aunt (ignoring the odd school coach trip) and it’s just nice to think you can hop on (of course you have to pay πŸ˜‚ but it’s another thing that’s rare due to living in the middle of nowhere πŸ˜‚) and go where you want. I think I’m just fascinated by life most of the time πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ . My sister and I slept over at our aunt’s house.

Day 7: August 12th – Saturday

We took the bus with our cousin to another shopping center where I got some flower boots from Deichmann that we ordered into the store the day before as they were out of stock in the other shopping centre! (We also ordered in another pair but they sold them by accident πŸ˜‚).

We then walked through to another shopping center (as you can guess I couldn’t move at the end of this day! πŸ˜‚) and were greeted in the entryway by a walking donut…I think this photo explains….

…that my sister and I got coupons for free donuts!! πŸ˜† We posed for the picture above but I’ll be damned if you think I’m putting it up here in my happy place! πŸ˜‚ We’re like “yeah yeah we’ll take the photo now give us the coupons!” πŸ˜‚ After having KFC (in a cafeteria directly above the krispy Kreme stand allowing my sister to fantasize over their flavours in-between mouthfuls of chicken and chips….we can’t be the only people who can switch from savoury to dessert so fast! πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚) we went down to pick up our free donuts and all I can say is mine was so good I can still taste it! And that only happens with good food, somehow I made that sentence sound like I brought the donut back up which was not the case! 😫 It was delicious! πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Later that afternoon before we were to be dropped off at our other aunt’s house (because this isn’t confusing at all! πŸ˜‚) We went with our cousins to a river and walked alongside it together which I think was the loveliest memory of all!

I took this photo because the barge looks so beautiful only to realize there were people standing at the end of it πŸ˜¬πŸ™ˆ I don’t think they saw me though so it’s okay! πŸ‘ŒEither way I bet they were proud that their prized possession was getting attention!..i’ll just shut up πŸ˜‚ it was embarrassing that’s all I’m saying! πŸ˜‚

Right! So that’s the end of part 1 of my holiday! In part two I’ve still to write about my stay in Bournemouth and trip to Windsor! πŸ˜† (On the days that I haven’t written as much I spent time with my littlest cousins which cannot be put into words as they are a bundle of energy! πŸ˜‚).

Thank you for reading! πŸ˜‰πŸ’— Hope your day is as amazing as you!

    1. Thank you!!! I couldn’t believe it either (outside the shop there was a list of all the chocolate bars they make into shakes and I went to start rattling off a list of all the ones I wanted but as soon as I said Terry’s chocolate orange the server said ok and I realize now that would have been too good to be true in one milkshake πŸ˜‚). Thank you!! Your comments are making me grin like mad! πŸ˜‚πŸ’—
