Hi everyone! How are you? I recently mentioned on my unique blogger award post that I had one draft and it was a mini review on some locusts (I thought they were crickets at the time π) I bought from TKmaxx….and ate! π I wrote it and then held back on posting it as I was incredibly embarrassed that I would believe it was worthy of a review in the first place π and that I dined on them at all π. A couple of you asked me to post it and so I have decided to but if we can agree on one simple thing…we never talk about it again! π This post was written a few months ago so I guess we are going back in time to a couple of days after the dreaded experience:
Todays post is a random short as I could not pass up the opportunity to show you this!! The last time I did a post where I described a taste (or thereabouts π) was my sour sweets haul and review (which was a dream compared to this!) This post is not a joke I swear! π I would like to think it is but it is not. A couple of weeks ago I bought a small tub of locusts from TKmaxx by the brand Good Life and have been waiting for the best time to try them (after avoiding them π). They were β¬3 come down from β¬12 (allot of stickers as you can guess no one wanted them π) and I cannot resist a deal I’m afraid! π
They are advertised as being high in protein (not that that makes them any more approachable π¬π). The first person to try one was my dad who said they taste like pistachios π¦ (update: they do not…either way I never want to eat pistachios again! π). On Wednesday I decided to bring them over to my friend’s house (the perfect guest always brings a gift π) where we were much smarter with the situation at hand π what makes anything tasty??……… chocolate!! π So locusts and chocolate spread it was!
Throw in a few photos to gross you out! Aren’t I lovely to you! π.
After grimacing for a good hour and wishing I could zip my mouth closed π€ I did it! I ate it!
I decided to start with a wing as for some reason I thought they would be like a crisp, a crisp that is incredibly difficult to digest! π it wouldn’t snap π« even though it was small and paper thin so I spat that part out and I should not have! Because then I actually realized what I was eating and it sunk in just seeing a wing laying there π I suppose it can’t be that different from eating chicken or bacon…dry π, but come on it’s an insect!! I feel evil and disgusting! π
I definitely found it easier to consider eating the half bodied ones (I can’t believe I’m actually writing this! π) because then you know for sure they’re dead! They should be anyway but I just don’t trust them. If you look at the jar too long it looks like they are moving!! π¬ I hate mind games!! I held my breath before I ate half a body (the side without the eyes looking at me accusingly) and washed it down with water. IT WAS CRUNCHY (excuse the captitals I’m screaming!) and I don’t think I have ever tried anything with the same texture before. The closest thing I can think of is flaky pastry π¬ The next body went down a sore treat with the chocolate spread π want to know something even more horrible?…later when I was thirsty I drank that water forgetting it tasted like locusts and it was a struggle to keep it down π¨π I never want to think about it again!!…..well first I have to figure out what to do with the rest of the jar! π€π No one will go near them! So I thought I should dip them in chocolate and pass them off as fruit! ππ What do you think? Would you have eaten them? π¬
Thank you for reading! ππ What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten? Have a lovely day!
Wow! You deserve a medal for trying theseβ¦I donβt think I could have done it. Not even with the chocolate spread!! Im glad you managed to turn it into a postβ¦and even more glad you decided to share after keeping it drafted for so long π xxxx

This is awesome… if a little odd! I’m so fussy so I don’t think o have eaten anything weird and most certainly not that weird! But it’s great you are willing to try new things and it could have been nice… I suppose…maybe!! π±

I don’t blame you for not wanting to try it! π I bet even if it had turned out tasty I would probably still be put off knowing what it is π I still can’t believe I did it π¬π

I love the way you have written this, so humorous! Never have I seen these in a shop before! I can’t believe you tried them, you are a lot braver than me π . My Leopard Geckos eat mealworms, want to try them next? π
On a side note, have you promoted your blog in any Facebook groups before? I have just started my own called Blogs In Bloom- I would love to have you as a member π. I have a blog post about it if you need more information, thank you π.
